Lexie and Eargo Are Shutting Down: What Owners Should Do Now
If you own Lexie or Eargo hearing aids, the companies behind them are closing their U.S. operations. Your hearing aids should keep working, but the apps, support, and warranty service are ending. The first deadline is October 8, 2026, for the Lexie app.
This guide summarizes the official notices on the Lexie and Eargo websites and explains what to do, in order of urgency. We have no relationship with either company, and nothing on this page is legal advice.
What happened
On July 15, 2026, LXE Hearing, Inc., the parent company of Lexie and Eargo, and four related U.S. companies (hearX USA, Inc.; Eargo, Inc.; Eargo Hearing, Inc.; and Eargo Screening, LLC) each entered into an assignment for the benefit of creditors under California law. This is a state-law alternative to bankruptcy: an independent assignee takes over the companies’ assets, sells what it can, and pays creditors as far as the money goes.
In their notices, the companies say they will be “unable to continue supporting our customers beyond October 2026.”

Will my hearing aids keep working?
Yes, according to both companies. Your hearing aids “are expected to continue functioning for hearing amplification and core daily use utilizing local on-device controls or your last saved local profiles.”
In plain terms:
- They will still amplify sound with whatever settings were last saved to them.
- On-device controls (buttons or taps) should keep working.
- You may lose the ability to change your settings if you don’t have a working app. That matters for self-fitting models, where the app is how you adjust the sound to your hearing.
- There will be no more software updates, support, or warranty repairs.
What to do now, step by step
1. Update and sync your app (urgent for Lexie owners)
This is the single most important step. The app (version 9) is expected to keep working locally on the phone where it’s installed, but only if you install it and sync it before the deadline. Older versions may stop working entirely.
- Lexie owners: before October 8, 2026
- Eargo owners: before October 22, 2026
To update:
- iPhone: open the App Store → tap your profile icon (top right) → scroll to the Lexie or Eargo app → tap Update.
- Android: open the Google Play Store → tap your profile icon → Manage apps & device → Manage → select the Lexie or Eargo app → tap Update.
Then confirm the update worked. In the Lexie app, go to Profile; in the Eargo app, go to Menu. Scroll to the bottom and check that the version shows v9.0.
2. Lock in your settings for offline use
With your phone connected to the internet and your hearing aids connected to the app:
- Open the app’s main controls screen.
- Check your volume, default settings, and saved profiles. Adjust anything you want to keep.
- Leave the app open, connected to both the internet and your hearing aids, so the settings sync for offline use.
If you’re helping a parent with this, do it together in person or on a video call if you can, and check the version number afterward.
3. Don’t replace or reset your phone carelessly
Because the app will only keep working on the phone where it’s installed, and can’t be downloaded again after the deadline:
- Avoid deleting the app or doing a factory reset on that phone.
- Be cautious with major phone updates for a while. The companies say future operating-system compatibility “cannot be guaranteed.”
- If you’re getting a new phone soon, consider keeping the old one as a dedicated “hearing aid remote.”
4. Download your user manual
User manuals and guides are available until October 30, 2026:
- Lexie: lexiehearing.com/us/support
- Eargo: eargo.com/guides
Save them to your phone or computer, or print them. You’ll want the cleaning, charging, and troubleshooting instructions later.
5. Contact customer service now if you need anything
Customer service is open until October 22, 2026 for both brands:
- Lexie: support@lexiehearing.com · 1-800-499-1336
- Eargo: support@eargo.com · 1-615-299-5632
6. Consider stocking up on supplies
Our suggestion, not the companies’: if your hearing aids use brand-specific tips, domes, wax guards, or chargers, consider buying spares while retailers still have stock. Once the companies close, these may become hard to find. Good daily care also matters more now that repairs aren’t available. See our guide to cleaning your hearing aids.
Refunds and claims
If you’re within 45 days of delivery (direct purchases): the standard return policy for non-defective products is 45 days from the date you received the device. Contact customer service right away. It closes October 22.
If you’re past 45 days, or had a warranty or repair request pending: you can file a Proof of Claim with the assignee. The deadline is 5:00 p.m. Pacific Time on January 31, 2027:
- Email: claims.sgi@jsheld.com
- Mail: ABC SPV IX LLC, 514 Via de la Valle, Suite 210, Solana Beach, CA 92075
File against the right company. Each company has a separate estate, and filing against one doesn’t count for another. According to the notices:
- Lexie claims go to the assignee for hearX USA, Inc.
- Eargo claims go to the assignee for Eargo, Inc., Eargo Hearing, Inc., and Eargo Screening, LLC
Include supporting documents such as your receipt, order confirmation, and any warranty correspondence. Be realistic: filing a claim doesn’t guarantee payment, and customers in a wind-down often recover little or nothing.
Other avenues to ask about:
- If you bought from a store or retailer, ask the store whether its own return or exchange policy can help.
- If you paid by credit card recently, call your card issuer and ask whether you can dispute the charge. Card dispute rules have time limits, so ask soon.
- If an insurance plan or hearing benefit paid for your devices, ask the plan whether it can help with a replacement.
Should you replace your Lexie or Eargo hearing aids?
Not necessarily, and not right away. If your hearing aids work well and your settings are saved, you can keep using them. Most hearing aids last three to seven years, and the hardware doesn’t suddenly fail because the company is gone.
But plan ahead. With no warranty, no repairs, and an app that may eventually stop working with newer phones, start budgeting for a replacement. Replace them sooner if:
- your hearing aids malfunction or the battery stops lasting the day;
- your hearing changes and you can’t adjust the settings without the app; or
- the app stops working after a phone update.
When you do shop, look beyond price at the company’s track record and support: warranty length, whether you can reach a person, and whether the device still works if the app goes away.
The bottom line
- Update the app to version 9 and sync it now. Lexie owners need to do this before October 8; Eargo owners before October 22.
- Download your manual before October 30.
- Call customer service before October 22 if you need anything.
- File a Proof of Claim by January 31, 2027 if you believe you’re owed money.
We’ll update this page if the companies or the assignee announce changes. Facts are as stated in the official notices as of October 6, 2026.
Frequently asked questions
- Will my Lexie or Eargo hearing aids stop working?
- According to the company, no. Your hearing aids are expected to keep working for everyday hearing using the on-device controls and your last saved settings. What goes away is the app's cloud features, software updates, customer support, and warranty service.
- When does the Lexie app go away?
- The Lexie app is removed from app stores, and its cloud connection is switched off, on October 8, 2026. If you install version 9 and sync it with your hearing aids before then, it is expected to keep working locally on that phone. Older versions may stop working entirely.
- When does the Eargo app go away?
- The Eargo app is removed from app stores, and its cloud connection is switched off, on October 22, 2026. As with Lexie, version 9 installed and synced before that date is expected to keep working locally on that phone.
- Can I still get a warranty repair or replacement?
- No. New warranty and repair requests stopped being accepted after September 15, 2026. If you believe the company owes you money, for example for a pending repair or a refund, you can file a Proof of Claim with the assignee by 5:00 p.m. Pacific Time on January 31, 2027. Filing does not guarantee payment.
- Can I get a refund for my Lexie or Eargo hearing aids?
- The standard 45-day return period for direct purchases still applies. Past that, your options are a Proof of Claim with the assignee, which doesn't guarantee payment, or, if you bought recently, asking your credit card company or the store you bought from what they can do.
- What does "assignment for the benefit of creditors" mean?
- It's a state-law alternative to bankruptcy. The company hands its assets to an independent assignee, who sells them and pays creditors as far as the money goes. Customers with refund or warranty claims are creditors and can file a claim, but there is no guarantee they will be paid in full, or at all.
