Medical Disclaimer
Hearing Aid Advisor publishes general consumer information about hearing aids: how they work, what they cost, how insurance and Medicare treat them, and how products compare. We are not doctors, audiologists, or licensed hearing aid dispensers, and nothing on this site is medical advice, diagnosis, or treatment.
Over-the-counter hearing aids are intended for adults 18 and older with perceived mild to moderate hearing loss. Hearing loss can have medical causes that need professional care. See a doctor or audiologist before buying a hearing aid, or promptly, if you notice:
- Sudden or rapidly worsening hearing loss
- Hearing loss in only one ear, or much worse in one ear
- Ear pain, discharge, bleeding, or a feeling of fullness that doesn’t go away
- Dizziness or problems with balance
- Ringing or buzzing (tinnitus) in one ear only
Sudden hearing loss can be a medical emergency. Get care as soon as possible.
Always follow the instructions from your hearing aid’s manufacturer, and don’t delay seeking professional advice because of something you read here. Product details, prices, and coverage rules change; we work to keep articles current, but check with the manufacturer, your insurer, or Medicare before making a decision.
